It seems hard to believe, but Avid is currently supporting three (3) different long term release branches of Media Composer; 2018.x, 2019.x, and 2020.x. An entirely new streamlined interface was introduced with 2019.x less than a year ago, and just over a month ago they released 2020.x with several media & project management improvements/changes. All for the better, eventually, but it will take time for many to migrate.
2018.x is the only branch fully supported by dTective® version 8.1
In addition to media & project management changes, 2020.x also introduces Avid’s new Universal Media Engine (UME), designed to replace dependancy on Apple’s QuickTime. Linking and QuickTime Reference are the two features impacted most by this for our users, as the QuickTime Link plugin is no longer installed with 2020.x.
